System overview

Brake Disc Wiping (BDW) is an intelligent maintenance function that automatically clears moisture from brake discs to keep braking optimal in wet conditions. It activates during extended wiper use or via rain/light sensors and wheel-speed data, then periodically applies slight brake pressure (about 5–15 bar) for brief pad-to-disc contact without noticeable deceleration, typically every few minutes in rain. Integrated with the ESC/ABS hydraulic unit and using existing brake components, BDW removes the thin water film on the rotors, reduces corrosion, and preserves the optimal friction coefficient.

Key advantages

Triggered by wiper use, rain/light sensors, and wheel-speed data

Brief pad-to-disc contact without noticeable deceleration

Removes water film and reduces rotor corrosion

Maintains a consistent friction coefficient in the wet

Technical profile

Capabilities and technical values are program-dependent and must be confirmed against the applicable OEM requirements, vehicle architecture and validation plan.

Problems it solves

  • Solves delayed brake bite from water film on wet rotors.
  • Keeps braking response consistent in prolonged rain.
  • Reduces rotor corrosion through regular surface cleaning.

Typical applications

  • Vehicles in wet or rainy climates needing consistent braking.
  • Platforms with advanced electronic brake systems.
  • Programs reusing ESC/ABS hydraulics for maintenance functions.
