BMSBattery Management System
Monitoring, protection, state estimation and safety management for the battery, exchanging data with the SCU and the wider vehicle.
Standards
- Developed against ISO 26262 for safety-critical control
- ECE R10 EMC design basis
- Traceability and EOL test at production
System overview
The ATI BMS measures cell and module voltage, temperature, current and communication state, estimates SOC and SOH, and enforces charge and discharge limits before a fault becomes a hazard. Protection covers over- and under-voltage, high and low temperature, overcurrent and communication faults, with events reported to the SCU, the charger and the HMI over CAN/CAN FD. The same platform serves EV, HEV and REV vehicles and stationary ESS installations. ATI designs and manufactures the BMS and acts as engineering consultant on battery programs; battery pack design and manufacture is carried out by Napco.
Cell and module voltage, temperature, current and communication-state measurement
SOC and SOH estimation with enforced charge and discharge limits
Over/under voltage, thermal, overcurrent and communication fault protection
Event and state reporting to the SCU, charger, HMI and test equipment
Technical profile
Capabilities and technical values are program-dependent and must be confirmed against the applicable OEM requirements, vehicle architecture and validation plan.
Problems it solves
- Balancing strategy across cells and modules
- Safety event handling coordinated with the SCU and HV contactors
- Diagnostic and calibration access for production and field service
Typical applications
- Battery electric vehicles
- Hybrid and range-extended vehicles
- ESS stationary energy storage
- Industrial and fleet programs
