ACCAdaptive Cruise Control
Maintains set speed and following distance by coordinating sensing, braking, and powertrain control.
Standards
- ISO 26262 development path
- Sensor-fusion ready
- ESC/ABS coordination
- Program-specific validation
System overview
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) automatically adjusts vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance from traffic ahead. Using radar, lidar, and/or cameras, it monitors the distance to preceding vehicles — typically within a 150–200 meter range — and calculates relative speed. It slows down when approaching slower traffic and accelerates back to the set speed when the path clears, and in full-range systems it can bring the vehicle to a complete stop and resume. The driver can select a follow gap of about 1–3 seconds, which the system adjusts dynamically with speed. Variants include standard highway ACC, full-speed-range stop-and-go ACC, and predictive ACC using navigation data.
Radar, lidar, and camera sensing of preceding traffic
Automatic speed and distance regulation up to full stop
Driver-selectable follow gap adjusted with speed

Technical profile
Capabilities and technical values are program-dependent and must be confirmed against the applicable OEM requirements, vehicle architecture and validation plan.
Problems it solves
- Solves the fatigue of manual speed and gap control on long drives.
- Maintains safe following distance in changing traffic flow.
- Enables comfortable stop-and-go driving in dense traffic.
Typical applications
- Highway-focused vehicles needing steady, safe cruising.
- Urban platforms benefiting from full-speed-range stop-and-go.
- ADAS suites combining ACC with AEB and lane support.
