ABPAdvanced Brake Pre-fill
Pre-charges the brake circuit when risk is detected, reducing response delay.
Standards
- ISO 26262 development path
- FCW integration
- ESC/ABS actuator reuse
- AEB-compatible
System overview
Automatic Brake Prefill (ABP) proactively prepares the braking system for emergency stops. Using forward-perception data, it detects a potential collision scenario, moves the brake pads closer to the rotors and builds slight hydraulic pressure in the lines. This reduces pedal travel and response delay while keeping the driver in control. ABP integrates with Forward Collision Warning, uses ESC/ABS pump and modulator components, and can support Automatic Emergency Braking programs.
Radar/camera risk sensing to anticipate emergency braking
Pads pre-positioned and lines pre-charged for faster response
Reduced pedal travel during sudden stops
Reuses existing ESC/ABS pump and modulator hardware
Technical profile
Capabilities and technical values are program-dependent and must be confirmed against the applicable OEM requirements, vehicle architecture and validation plan.
Problems it solves
- Solves brake-response delay caused by pad-to-rotor air gap.
- Cuts system reaction time in imminent-collision scenarios.
- Bridges collision warning and full autonomous emergency braking.
Typical applications
- ADAS-equipped vehicles with forward-collision sensing.
- Platforms adding AEB that need minimal brake latency.
- Programs reusing ESC/ABS hydraulics for active safety.
Technical profile
- Sensing
- Radar, cameras, and traffic closing-speed analysis
- Action
- Reduces pad air gap and pre-charges hydraulic lines
- Benefit
- Reduced pedal travel and brake-system response delay
- Integration
- Works with FCW and AEB via ESC/ABS actuators
